Diane R. Gunter

I have been a black and white photographer for several years now.
I am mostly self-taught, but have taken a few classes at universities
in Virginia and Oregon, my native and chosen habitats, respectively.
I mainly work with 35 mm format, but have many different and older
cameras that I like to experiment with as well. I usually print on
black and white warm tone paper, but I also enjoy making Cyanotype,
Van Dyke, and sepia toned prints.

I prefer to live in the woods, out in nature. I find the natural landscape
peaceful and inspiring to both my life and work. Accordingly so, most
of my photographs are of landscapes or subjects found in nature. I
like the traditional landscape, but usually find myself taking close-up
photos or photos of pieces of things found in nature. These often
reveal the patterns and beautiful subtleties of nature that can only
be seen by being directly immersed in it or in the very least, very
close to it.

The photographs in this show represent both of these styles, the traditional
landscape and the closer look. They were taken on the Oregon Coast,
a rich and beautiful area providing much inspiration and rich, textured
subject matter.
