Allison L. Compton

Moments suspended in time, literary works of critical, philosophical
and fictional genres, represent my oeuvre. I am attracted to the intrinsic
spirit of life. Moments in time can be a landscape, a beautiful floral
arrangement, a detail or even a feeling. Reading engages my creativity
and mind to react visually as well as through projects. Intuitively,
I paint what comes to me whether it is a vision in a dream or in my
mind. I am haunted by these visions until I bring them to life as art.

I recently read Rebecca Wells' novels, Little Altars Everywhere and
The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya's Sisterhood. The Ya Ya's scrapbook
and letters moved me to contemplate my childhood and the friendships
I forged then and continue to maintain today. The paintings in this
exhibition are approximately the size of  snapshots. They are loosely
connected to memories and images of my recent trips to northwestern
United States and British Columbia.  Watercolors emulate
the process of serendipity and venturing into the "unknown".
